Ángel García Galiano, laureate poet, novelist, and foremost scholar of the Divine Comedy, has written a groundbreaking collection of poems that forces a dialogue between heaven and earth. The book takes the form of a delicate travel journal—or rather, a pilgrimage—featuring places such as Assisi, Delphi, Crete, Venice, Egypt, Arizona, and Silos. In each poem, the poet highlights certain key words in bold. When read independently, these bolded words unexpectedly form a haiku that enters into dialogue with the longer poem—either enhancing it or contradicting it, yet always clarifying the epiphanic effect that the landscape has had on the author’s soul. This is a truly original poetry collection in two dimensions: an ad extra pilgrimage through the outer world, and a deeper, inner ad intra journey of the soul.
