Abstract

This article analyzes the Intersecting Circles Model proposed by Yus (2013a, 2013b, 2016, 2020, 2022, 2023a) for the study of the interpretation and classification of humorous discourses. The main objectives include the exhaustive review of this model, its theoretical foundation and its applications to the analysis of humorous corpora. Subsequently, a simplification of the model is proposed that contributes to delving into how inferences about humorous discourses are carried out, as well as those of a sociocultural nature, in addition to exposing the reasons underlying the modifications made to the model. The final conclusions will reveal the adequacy of this new Two Intersecting Circles Model, combined with the need to take into account the so-called preparatory discourses present in the interpretation of humor. It is also proposed that some modifications to the terms are necessary.
